Dilemma of Mr D

To succeed, one has to be clear in his thoughts- either change self according to the requirements of a situation or change the situation to suit your ways of doing things. On the day he was told about his Icon and Captain status, RD should have made up his mind on the above or flatly refused the offer. He did neither. Probably his confidence was boosted by the fact that his chums, one from Calcutta and the other from Mumbai were also in the list.

In the T / 20 format there is no scope for changing the situation to your requirement; but you have to change. Mr. D begs to disagree. He firmly believes, he can gather the likes of him together in a bunch and prove to one and all, that it is experience and not necessaserily young and energetic youthfulness that can do well in this format. His conviction was so deep that he could convince the hard-boiled Mr. M to back him to the hilt. Unfortunately, all these experienced men of his, also believe in experience and so are waiting to get experienced before performing. The irony of the whole thing is, there is only one T/20 specialist in Karnataka and he was ignored and a rival team was allowed to grab him and reap the benefit of his performance

In any corporate office, it is a rarity for the top man to directly deal with shop floor or field force. He always has executives in between to keep him informed of the progress and to take appropriate action on non-performence. If that does not happen, the executive has to leave and another takes over. This keeps repeating till the non-performer gets what is due to him. Mr. D should know Mr. M is from that  background.

It will help if Mr. D remembers, performance alone matters and how successfully he was performing not so long ago, waging lone battles again and again in the field to save the day for his team.
